And then there were four.

So, my youngest son is almost 18 months old and has been very slow to pop teeth through.  As in he didn't have ANY when he turned ONE.  The Princess was the same way, no teeth until about a week after her first birthday.  No clue why.  The older two teethed at the 'normal' times, before a year...  So the two younger ones have been a new experience for me.  I wasn't as freaked out this time around since The Princess didn't get her's until late, I was actually kind of glad.  You see, this is my first baby that has exclusively breastfed and I was worried that once he got teeth, he'd bite me and I'd revoke his boob privileges immediately.  My goal was to get to a year with the whole breastfeeding thing, which I accomplished.  Although, he did go through a biting phase and even though he had no teeth, it still hurt like HELL.  Luckily it was a short phase and I'm not one to hold grudges, at least against a baby...

Anyway, it was shortly after he hit a year old that he popped his first tooth, and then his second.  And then we've just been waiting.  And waiting.  And waiting some more.  The thing is we could feel his front teeth just below the gums.  It was like they were coming in but not cutting through the gums, and they seemed to be causing him pain.  He hated us to touch them.  This went on for months, like 5 months to be more precise.  And because he seemed to be in pain, especially at night, we were giving him ibuprofen daily to help the poor little guy out.  I hate giving medications when its not absolutely necessary, so I tried a few times to forgo the usually bedtime dose, only to have him wake up several times in pain and needing it anyway.  So, once he cut the first tooth a little over a week ago, I thought 'YAY, maybe we can all get some unmedicated sleep!'.  And we did, for 2 days.  ugh.  I felt that second front tooth under the gum too, but it didn't seem as close as the first one did when it finally popped through, so I figured we had another month ahead of us.  But I was wrong!  Last night I was feeling around, trying to see how tender his gums were (which he HATED), and there it was, Tooth #4!

So, he's not exactly caught up to his peers, but he's getting there.  He's got three cousins, one that is a month older and two that are a month younger, and they ALL have at least 6 teeth each.  Oh well, like our ped said, he's never seen a kid that didn't get teeth....
